Bridge the Gap: Unlocking Innovative Medical Device Access in India via Evidence-based Reimbursement Models
- Special Report
India's healthcare system is undergoing a significant transformation to increase access to innovative medical technologies through evidence-based reimbursement strategies. While initiatives like PM-JAY have enhanced healthcare access for underprivileged populations, challenges persist in affordability, clinician engagement, and leveraging real-world data.
Proposed solutions include introducing selective copayment model inspired by successful framework in South Korea; enhancing health technology assessments by fostering clinician involvement through improved access, awareness and incentivization; and developing robust real-world evidence repositories to inform policy and reimbursement decisions.
These strategies aim to bridge systemic gaps, improve patient outcomes and ensure equitable access to innovative medical devices. Collaboration among government agencies, private insurers, healthcare providers and clinical societies will be critical to achieving these goals.
